“Barnet Education Arts Trust absolutely loves to make music! Whether you are a young classical, jazz or rock musician we have bands and groups at our three music centres (located in East Barnet, Finchley and Hendon). If you sing we have choirs, and if you are a teacher we have training opportunities and advice. We can hire out orchestral instruments if you are having lessons through us with one of our 170 qualified and CRB checked fabulous teachers. We stage concerts regularly, every Summer we organise a seven night festival at the Arts Depot for all our schools, and every five years we hold a musical extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall. We also work in with seven other North and West London music hubs (Music8London). If you are three years or older we have something for you!”

“Barnet Green Party campaigns on every major issue and we demonstrated our widespread support across the borough when we beat the Liberal Democrats in 19 of the 21 wards in the 2014 Barnet Council elections. In the 2015 general election, our candidates sharply increased the Green vote in all three Barnet constituencies. Stephen Taylor polled a mighty 16,996 votes in the Barnet and Camden constituency in May 2016, beating UKIP and the LibDems by several thousand votes.”

Founded in 1948 to provide facilities for the practice of the visual arts, and to encourage the appreciation and understanding of them, it continues to offer a valuable focus for the activities of many local artists.”

“Welcome to the campaign for a Better Barnet

We set up the Better Barnet campaign to respond to residents who told us what they thought was broken in Barnet – a Conservative council that was just not listening to the people it claimed to represent. We work in partnership with local residents and community groups on everything from road safety schemes and parking charges, to saving Friern Barnet Library and opposing the Conservatives ‘One Barnet’ sell-off of council services.

Although the campaign to stop the ‘One Barnet’ sell-off of services was not successful, together we have achieved many other successes. And where the Barnet Conservatives have failed to create a vision and a plan for Barnet, and where they have failed to work with residents and communities to create that vision and plan, the Better Barnet campaign will continue to work with local people to help them do just that.

We’re building a campaign and a movement that wants to put you, our local residents, at the heart of it.”

“Our Local History Society helps you find more about Barnet’s past and meet other people who enjoy history.

Barnet Record Society was formed in 1927 after a group of local people became concerned that Barnet’s past was being lost and decided to start a collection of documents and objects relating to the history of Barnet and the surrounding areas. The Society’s first exhibition was held in the Barnet Council Chamber. However, as the years passed, the collection grew, and on 19 March 1938 it was given a permanent home at 31 Wood Street, where it has remained. After discovering that people thought the word ‘record’ indicated a music society, the name was changed in 1967 to Barnet & District Local History Society. It is now ‘Barnet Museum and Local History Society’.”

“Barnet Model Helicopter Club was formed on the 15th of September 2006. We fly at the Old Elizabethans’ Playing Fields which is in May Lane, Barnet, London, England.

The primary purpose of this field is cricket and football. However the field is available for flying when no sporting activities or maintenance work are in progress, which is the majority of the time except weekends. Hence our club is particularly suitable for those who have free time during the week.

The field has a gate that is always kept locked. All members have a key, and are asked to lock the gate every time it’s used.

Currently we have space for a few more members. If you fly model helicopters and are interested, please check the club rules on the website and e-mail Malcolm Messiter.
