Elisana Florist Opens After Extensive Research of 14th Century Building

It’s great to see this shop finally open. The premises had been closed for a number of years and the current refit took somewhat longer than expected when the authorities realised quite how historic the building is.

Having opened just in time for Valentine’s Day, Elisana is generously stocked with flowers and various gift items. These include a very tempting selection of Leonidas Belgian chocolates, so you’ll find something suitable here at any price point. As well as enjoying browsing in such a cheerful shop, you can appreciate the atmospheric building where the old (and we’re talking seriously old) timber beams proudly feature.

This stretch of the High Street dates back to the Middle Ages when Barnet was a strategically located market town and the road was a drovers’ route. Samples from the rafters were analysed and revealed timber dating from the 14th century (see more here).

It’s so easy to take for granted the fascinating hidden history of our town, but here it is within tangible reach. You can treat someone (or yourself) while you’re at it!
