We were delighted to hear that treatments are now being offered at Barnet’s luxurious beauty boutique Odette featuring the top-notch products they stock, and just in time for Christmas.
Owner Paige has converted space at the back of the shop and from Thursday to Saturday therapist Joanna is available for a tempting range of indulgent treats. And, believe me, indulged is how you’ll feel.
Paige very kindly invited me along for a facial (their speciality) and to take a look at the new facility. I am partial to the occasional facial as you can read here and here, so I was only too pleased to accept in order to report back on the experience. Having just posted off all my Christmas cards, I was feeling calm and looking forward to some me-time.
Once greeted by Paige, I was shown through to the treatment room by Joanna who noted any medical issues before discussing what I effect I wanted from the facial. They offer a menu of six facials and you are encouraged to select one in advance when you book. Apart from the tailor-made Odette facial, they are each based on an individual beauty range: Balance Me, Bee Good, AEOS, Ren and This Works (my choice). I’d read a few interesting and encouraging things about the British This Works brand which was launched by Kathy Phillips, former Beauty Director of Vogue UK and noted journalist. I like the fact that the unnecessary chemicals are avoided as well as a rosta of other eco credentials and that Kathy acknowledges that lifestyle and wellbeing have a strong effect on your skin.
To the sound of calming music I got ready and settled down under a gorgeous purple throw, thick and velvety, so different to the usual towel which often feels too clinical. Joanna used a number of products from the range and supplemented them with an additional mask from the honey-based Bee Good range for extra moisturisation. She also went in deep with some extractions. As well as excellent face massages at most stages and a final head massage, Joanna also focused on other parts of the body: my feet and ankles while my face was being steamed and my arms while the mask was doing its thing. The head massage also included my ears and I loved Joanna’s confident sweeping strokes on the face and the way she stimulated the sinus area – a great feature at this time of year if you’re feeling under the weather. All really really good.
For this quality and detailed attention the prices are reasonable. Facials are available for 30 minutes (£25–30) or one hour (£40–46). Other treatments include massages, waxing, eyebrow and lash tinting, spray tanning and make up services. Vouchers obviously make ideal gifts or simply treat yourself.
What’s more, there’s a 10 percent discount on treatments during December.
