Birds, Beasts and Bugs : A Musical Menagerie
All creatures great and small have frequently been a source of inspiration for composers of choral and vocal music. In this concert, you can enjoy pieces in the widest variety of styles, from the renaissance to the present day, all with an animal theme. You’ll hear how different composers view the same creature - Thomas Vautor’s Suffolk Owl contrasting with Elgar’s eerie setting, and the bee as envisaged by John Wilbye, Frank Bridge right up to a recently premiered work by Cecila McDowall. Finchley Symphony Orchestra has a fabulous spring concert coming up for you on Saturday May 17th at 7.30pm at Trinity Church, Nether Street, Finchley, London N12 7NN. The programme includes Prokofiev's wonderful dance-like Overture on Hebrew Themes, Stravinsky's inspirational Pulcinella Suite and Haydn's majestic Symphony No. 99 in E flat. Find out more »The 10th Barnet Classic Car Show
Starts with a parade of approximately 80 classic vehicles along Barnet High Street at 10.30am. Followed by a static display of about 150 classic vehicles at 11am on the top floor of The Spires car park. The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Danny Rich and party including Councillor David Longstaff will be riding in the last car, a 1930s open top Bentley. The Deputy Mayor will declare the show open on his arrival. This year we have a special display of Jaguar Cars. We are raising funds for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice in Barnet.
