Snowdrop Festival: 7 The Grove, Highgate Village
Half acre garden designed for year-round interest making a tapestry of greens and yellows. A wild garden with mature trees giving a woodland feel. Brilliant for hide and seek and young explorers. Water garden, vistas, 19 paths, some leading to sunny clearings. Snowdrops in February. Exceptional camellias and magnolia in the spring. The garden has been open for the NGS for 59 consecutive yrs! Small garden around a 400 year old thatched cottage adjoining a disused churchyard with ancient yews and Norman tower being the remnant of a Chapel of Ease. Many species and varieties of snowdrops together with cyclamen, crocuses, irises and other early spring bulbs. Garden is at the end of a very narrow country lane hence request to park at Village Hall. The garden is laid out with raised beds with many unusual snowdrops. Mulled wine and shortbread included in entry fee.

Hellebores, aconites and winter flowering shrubs are also in flower, as well as the coloured stems of acers, cornus and willow around the lakes. A collection of rare and unusual snowdrops has been built up over the years many of which can be found growing in the borders and a labelled collection of 200 varieties is kept in and around the walled kitchen garden. Home to exotic fish and over 2,000 species of tropical plants and trees, a visit is a perfect way to enjoy a lazy Sunday with friends and family. The Conservatory is open on selected Sundays each month and Bank Holidays from 12 noon–5pm with last entry at 4.30pm. Admission is free, no booking required. A chance for children to have fun in the woods taking part in activities such as rope swings, woodland games, mud kitchen, building dens and some use of tools.
