“Barnet Symphony Orchestra is a vibrant, engaging and dynamic orchestra based in North London. Throughout the year we play and perform classical music in an enjoyable and sociable setting. While we aim to achieve a high standard of performance, we truly believe that, as an amateur orchestra, enjoyment is the most important part of any music making experience. This means that our members truly look forward to Monday evenings from both a musical and social perspective.

We perform three concerts a year; usually in November, March and July. We warmly welcome new players throughout the year (especially strings and brass) so we’d love anyone to come along.

We have a professional conductor and leader for all our rehearsals who both bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to the rehearsals. Their expertise really does allow us to grow as individual musicians and as an ensemble to produce some wonderful performances. We also regularly work with professional soloists which is inspiring and draws the best out of the orchestra.

If you’re interested in coming along and playing then call us on 07990 510102. We’d love to see you at our next rehearsal.”

“Barnet Education Arts Trust absolutely loves to make music! Whether you are a young classical, jazz or rock musician we have bands and groups at our three music centres (located in East Barnet, Finchley and Hendon). If you sing we have choirs, and if you are a teacher we have training opportunities and advice. We can hire out orchestral instruments if you are having lessons through us with one of our 170 qualified and CRB checked fabulous teachers. We stage concerts regularly, every Summer we organise a seven night festival at the Arts Depot for all our schools, and every five years we hold a musical extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall. We also work in with seven other North and West London music hubs (Music8London). If you are three years or older we have something for you!”

Formed in 1990, the club is for local musicians and singers and especially audience who are interested in traditional and contemporary folk music.

“Barnet Choral Society was founded in 1940 and is currently around 100 strong. We provide an opportunity to learn and enjoy choral music in a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere (with occasional social events to spice things up a bit).

We’re a non-auditioned choir and welcome singers of all ages and abilities, with a mix of material which we hope will suit everybody. Our repertoire has ranged from old to new; from sacred works to opera choruses and folk songs; from light-hearted to serious and from straightforward to difficult.

We give four concerts a year using professional soloists and orchestras where appropriate. We normally perform in Barnet but occasionally elsewhere – St Albans Cathedral, for example. From time to time we organise short tours abroad – we’ve been to Barcelona, Prague, Verona and Cyprus.”

“A community wind band based in Barnet, north London, the first incarnation of Barnet Band was formed in 1889. This makes us one of Barnet’s oldest musical organisations. During the summer, we play at fetes, community events, and bandstands, while Christmas sees us participating at Barnet’s Christmas Fair in The Spires shopping centre. We also give concerts for local charities, and over the years have been privileged to help many worthy causes.

Barnet Band is a not-for-profit organisation run by its members. As a community wind band, we accept new members without audition and we don’t ask for grades. We aim for rehearsals to be fun and sociable occasions. There’s always a teabreak.

If that sounds what you’re looking for, please come along and try us out. You will find us very friendly and be made extremely welcome.

We are currently seeking clarinets and brass players. So if you play clarinet, tuba, trombone, French horn, euphonium or trumpet, fancy playing in a friendly community band and can spare Wednesday evenings to rehearse, why not come along and give us a try?”

“The Alyth Choral Society, based at the North Western Reform Synagogue, occupies a unique place in local music making.
This mixed choir concentrates on varied works based on Old Testament, secular and Jewish themes.
Many performances are with orchestra.

The choir is open to all with a love of singing.”

The Ringers would like to “extend a warm invitation to everyone interested in learning more about the bells or having a try to come along on a Monday evening and see what we are up to”.
