“We are a group who meet once a month in Whetstone for lectures.

Barnet National Trust Association was formed in 1979 for local members of the National Trust to meet like minded people and get more from their membership. We are a friendly group who have now opened up our membership to those who are not National Trust members.

We have a monthly lecture programme as well as day outings, an annual 5 day holiday, a quiz, lunches, coffee mornings and other events. Our members also receive 3 newsletters a year, by email or post.

We welcome new members and we are always interested in recruiting people who would like to help with the organisation of our programme.

The annual membership is £8 plus £6 for additional family members at the same address.”

“We are a friendly, local social club for those who want to have fun and meet others. Barnet Plus is part of a national network of similar groups that are run voluntarily, not for profit, and organise a range of social and leisure events.

We offer a wide variety of things to do. For example, there are organised holidays and weekend breaks where members from across the country get together to enjoy discos, day trips, sports or just relaxing! Members also meet up for parties, meals out, bowling, quizzes and other events where the emphasis is on having a good time.

Barnet Plus meets on Sundays from 8.15 pm at Discovery Hall, 1 Stevenson Close, Netherlands Road, New Barnet, EN5 1DR, just two minutes from Oakleigh Park Station and ten minutes from bus routes 184, 307 and 326.

To join costs just £10, but you can come along three times before deciding whether to take out membership. A small fee is payable for Sunday events.”

“BRA aims to watch and safeguard the interests of residents in the area covered. We take an interest in matters in the area which might affect residents such as parking and road safety, local transport and more generally the plans and activities of the local Council. We look at planning applications for major projects which might affect people generally, although we do not have the resources to look at all small planning applications.”

“Barnet Symphony Orchestra is a vibrant, engaging and dynamic orchestra based in North London. Throughout the year we play and perform classical music in an enjoyable and sociable setting. While we aim to achieve a high standard of performance, we truly believe that, as an amateur orchestra, enjoyment is the most important part of any music making experience. This means that our members truly look forward to Monday evenings from both a musical and social perspective.

We perform three concerts a year; usually in November, March and July. We warmly welcome new players throughout the year (especially strings and brass) so we’d love anyone to come along.

We have a professional conductor and leader for all our rehearsals who both bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to the rehearsals. Their expertise really does allow us to grow as individual musicians and as an ensemble to produce some wonderful performances. We also regularly work with professional soloists which is inspiring and draws the best out of the orchestra.

If you’re interested in coming along and playing then call us on 07990 510102. We’d love to see you at our next rehearsal.”

“We cater for all types of players from those wishing to play competitive table tennis to those who are just starting to explore the delights of Table Tennis. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

We are open every night of the week from 19.30 until 23.00 except Sundays. We have a maximum of 9 tables but this is usually limited to 7 tables during the week due to prearranged League matches being played alongside practice table bookings. We always have a minimum of 3 tables available for practice bookings.

Social Table Tennis sessions are for people of all ages and playing standards. They tend to be less competitve than match play and many of the attendees prefer to play doubles rather than singles. You do not have to be a member to attend and new players are always welcome. Morning sessions are held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm. An afternoon session is held on Wednesdays between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm. Fees are £3 for members and £5 for non-members. No pre-booking is necessary, just turn up and play.”
