The Big Choir: Harmony in the Name of Charity

Since its launch in February, things have developed quickly for new fundraising venture The Big Choir.

Via social media and word-of-mouth the choir has attracted many local members (including yours truly) and, with confidence having grown from week to week, last Thursday we performed our first concert to an audience of friends and family at St James’s Church. A cheque for £2000 was presented to Katie Beck of Cancer Research UK who explained how the money would be spent, and audience contributions and cake sale raised another £200. Our choir leader Sara Conrad led us through a short programme of upbeat modern pieces including Lean On Me, Rule the World, Something Inside, Feeling Good and California Dreamin’ and we left on a real high with a sense of achieving something special with our new friends.

Organiser Sharon Czapnik Down said, ‘Our members sang beautifully, it was incredibly emotional and we would love to be able to share the experience with everyone. It was absolutely fabulous.’

The choir is still recruiting, so do get in touch with Sharon (thebigchoir.org@gmail.com) if you fancy joining and we’ll keep you informed about future events.
