“We are a friendly bunch of people united by our passion for Orienteering. In Orienteering circles we are often known as “Happy Herts” or just HH. We have achieved Sport England Clubmark accreditation status which recognises our commitment to fostering opportunities for juniors and to those who help with our junior activities.

Happy Herts draws its membership from across the county and beyond (including North London & Middlesex) and across a wide spectrum of Orienteering competence. It exists to promote the sport of Orienteering, both by organising events and by encouraging members to attend the events of other clubs.”

“The London Orienteering Klubb (LOK) draws its members from the north side of the River Thames and to the west of the Lea Valley. It competes against other clubs and hosts local and regional races.

Our runners are of all ages, from beginners to national standard atheletes. New members are most welcome and training can be given.

The sport is of Swedish origin, and we have used the Swedish spelling in our name.”

“The Lyonsdown Club was founded in mid 1895 and is the oldest Snooker & Billiards club in the UK and the World. This small but exclusive club has been continually active since its opening.

The Lyonsdown Club is in New Barnet, Hertfordshire and was originally a stable, the premises formerly being part of Oakwood House Estate.

Without question, we have to say that our club and members are deeply indebted to past members who did so much to forge the development and structure of the club.

Currently, the Lyonsdown Club is in a very healthy position. The Club works very hard to keep an even balance of membership and availability of table time. With this in mind, the membership is monitored regularly by the Management Committee.

First and foremost, to be a member of the Lyonsdown Club, you have to have an interest in snooker or billiards, and play the game. We do not wish to allow membership to anyone who has no interest in the game.”

“Monken Hadley Cricket Club, based in Barnet, Herts, welcomes players of all standards to play friendly cricket matches on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer. Please contact us through the website if you would like to play – regularly or just occasionally!

History
The earliest recorded report of cricket being played on the Common appeared in the Barnet Press and it referred to a game against the Privy Council Office CC on June 14th 1862. It is however probably that cricket was played on the Common earlier than this as the novelist, Anthony Trollop (1815-1882), in his novel “The Bertrams”, which was set in the 1840s made a reference to Cricket on the Common. His mother lived in Hadley and it is therefore quite likely that he drew on real life for inspiration.

The present Monken Hadley Cricket Club, which has its pitch on the grassland at the western end of the Common, was reformed in 1954 and has played continuously since that time.”

“The club was originally founded in 1940 to provide cricket for the former pupils of Queen Elizabeth’s Boys School in Barnet, but we have been an open club for many years, and welcome members from across the Barnet area and beyond.

The club currently runs 5 adult teams, 9 colts teams and a Ladies team. The three Saturday adult teams play in Divisions 3A, 8A and 10B of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League, while there is one league & one friendly XI on Sunday’s helping to bridge the gap between junior and senior cricket.

We are always looking for new members to join our friendly club, so whether you are a junior looking to play, a parent or a more experienced player or coach wanting to join a new club, or just someone looking for a quiet place to have a drink and watch some cricket, come and say hello.”

We share a love of walking and the countryside.
